How to have a fascinating writing style when writing essays, etc?
I write boring when it comes to essays and articles and stuff I'm assigned. How could I improve my writing style?

I get sarcastic when I write essays. I don't really know why. I mentioned Christopher Columbus in an in-class essay and I said "...when Columbus 'discovered' America". This has mixed results. My history teacher finds it amusing but last year's english teacher always marked me down.
